KAMPALA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people were killed on Monday in eastern Uganda after the driver of a lorry they were traveling in lost control and the vehicle overturned.
Six others were injured in the accident, which occurred in the district of Amuria at about 2:40 a.m. local time at a swamp, police said in a statement, adding that "a badly patched road in and around the swamp" might be the cause.
According to police figures, Uganda registers some 20,000 road accidents, which cause more than 2,000 deaths, a year. ■
