TUNIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10,000 Tunisian migrants managed to reach the Italian coast illegally this year until Aug. 8, local media reported on Tuesday.
Tunisian migrants represent the largest number among all registered nationalities who arrived in Italy illegally, the private radio station Shems FM reported, quoting a statement issued by the Italian Ministry of Interior.
Tunisia has been one of the main points of access to Europe for the illegal migrants.
The number of illegal migrants attempting to reach Italy from Tunisian coasts usually increases in summer because of good weather conditions. ■
