JUBA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan President Salva Kiir has sacked Minister of Finance and Planning Agak Acuil Lual and Bank of South Sudan Governor Moses Makur Deng.

In a decree televised on state TV Thursday, Kiir replaced Acuil with Dier Tong Ngor, a former Bank of South Sudan governor, as the new minister of finance and planning; Makur's deputy, Johnny Ohisa Damian, will serve as acting governor of the central bank.

Kiir did not give any reason for the sackings, which came amid hyperinflation and depreciation of the country's local currency, the South Sudanese pound (SSP).

The SSP fell to a record low of 700 to the U.S. dollar, down from 450 to the greenback a month ago.
