LUSAKA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Year-on-year inflation in Zambia stood at 9.9 percent in July, up from 9.7 percent in June, data released by the country's statistics agency on Thursday has shown.

In its monthly release, the Zambia Statistics Agency attributed the rise in inflation to an increase in fuel pump prices which triggered an upward adjustment to public bus fares.

According to the release, both food and non-food inflation increased in July, with food inflation at 12.0 percent from 11.9 percent in June while non-food inflation increased to 7.2 percent from 6.9 percent in June.

On the other hand, the month-on-month inflation also rose to 0.4 percent in July from 0.3 percent in June.

The release said this was due to an increase in food inflation from 0.3 percent in June to 1.2 percent in July as well as non-food inflation from 0.6 percent in June to 0.7 percent in July.
