BRAZZAVILLE, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The electoral observation mission of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) deemed Wednesday in Brazzaville the legislative and local elections "transparent" held earlier across the Republic of the Congo.

"The mission noted the discreet presence of the police in the voting centers. Overall, it noted with satisfaction the transparent character observed in the conduct of the counting and announcement of partial results operations on the polling places," the CEMAC electoral mission said in a statement.

The electoral mission deployed its delegates in various departments in the country where it observed the conduct of the voting operations without major incidents, in a peaceful atmosphere, and with respect for democratic rules, according to the statement.

The CEMAC election observers advised the Congolese government to maintain the climate of peace during the election period and to increase public awareness of electoral violence.

The mission also called on the political parties and the various candidates for the elections to deploy their representatives in all the polling stations, before inviting the media professionals to play their role of giving true news to the public in an impartial manner.

About 2.8 million Congolese voters have been going to the polls on July 10 to elect their deputies to the National Assembly and their municipal and departmental councilors.
