LUSAKA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's economy grew by 2.4 percent in the first quarter of 2022 compared to 1.8 percent in the first quarter of 2021, its statistics agency said on Thursday.

The economic growth was buoyed by positive performances in public administration and education at 1.9 percent, information and communication technology at 0.7 percent as well as electricity generation and transport and logistics at 0.2 respectively, according to the Zambia Statistics Agency.

The agency, however, said in a release that there was negative contribution from sectors like mining, construction, manufacturing which grew by negative 0.9 percent, negative 0.9 percent and negative 0.2 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, the country recorded a single inflation rate in June of 9.7 percent from 10.2 percent recorded in May.

According to the release, the decline was due to slowdown in prices of both food and non-food items.
