LAGOS, May 19 (Xinhua) -- A total of 360 people were killed and 1,389 others kidnapped in the first quarter of 2022 in a spate of attacks by gunmen in Nigeria's northwestern state of Kaduna, according to a security report released on Thursday.

In the report, the Kaduna state government said 258 persons were also injured in various attacks and 10 rape cases were recorded in January-March.

It confirmed the presence of extremist groups, including Boko Haram, in parts of the state, adding there were signs that extremists moving from the northeast region have growing interaction with armed bandits in the state.

"The problem of insecurity now has moved from the northeast to the northwest," the report said, urging the military and other security agencies to "take notice of this before it gets out of control."
