LAGOS, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Two men lost their lives while making efforts to recover a cell phone from a pit toilet, a traditional wooden toilet in north Nigeria, authorities said.
The accident occurred in Aku village in the Gaya local government area of Kano state on Sunday morning, said Saminu Abdullahi, a spokesperson for the fire service in the state, in a statement reaching Xinhua on Monday.
Abdullahi said one victim fell in the pit toilet and became trapped as he tried to pick up his cellphone from the pit, and his brother went inside to rescue him and became trapped as well.
The victims were brought out of the pit latrine unconscious and later confirmed dead, while their corpses were handed over to the village head for burial. ■
