DAR ES SALAAM, April 27 (Xinhua) -- A Tanzanian cabinet minister told parliament on Wednesday that plans were afoot to introduce vocational training in primary and secondary schools to furnish students with practical skills.
Before the introduction of the vocational education in primary and secondary schools, the government is reviewing the education and training policy of 2014, said Adolf Mkenda, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology.
Mkenda told the House in the capital Dodoma that the introduction of vocational education in primary and secondary schools is also intended to groom learners into being able to navigate in the highly competitive labor market.
He said the government has begun improving educational infrastructure in some of state-run teachers vocational training colleges to enable them train competent teachers in the discipline.
Mkenda said the government is also looking at the possibility of sponsoring vocational education teachers to universities abroad and establishing vocational training exchange programs. ■
