ADDIS ABABA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat on Monday condemned deadly terror attacks that targeted several army camps in Mali.

The AU Commission chairperson said in a press statement that he has learned with outrage about the despicable terror attacks against three Malian army camps that left several soldiers dead and injured.

"The chairperson of the commission strongly condemns these terrorist attacks against the positions of the Malian army in urban areas, causing serious trauma to the populations already hard hit by the multifaceted crisis that the country is experiencing," the AU statement said. "The chairperson expresses his solidarity with the transitional authorities and the people of Mali and reaffirms the commitment of the AU to continue and strengthen its efforts to support Mali and the countries of the region in their fight against terrorism."

At least six soldiers were killed in several almost simultaneous attacks in the West African country, the Malian army said Sunday.

Eleven terrorists were also killed in the attacks early Sunday in Niono and Bapho, as well as the Sevare camp, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (Dirpa) said in a statement.

Mali has been facing security, political and economic crises since 2012, with insurgencies, jihadist incursions and inter-community violence killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands of others in the West African country.
