ADDIS ABABA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed after a minibus taxi overturned in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, local officials said on Tuesday.
In a press statement, Gullele district communication office of Addis Ababa city administration, said the deadly accident happened on Tuesday morning after the driver of the minibus taxi experienced a brake failure, causing the deaths of six people, including two students.
Gullele district communication office further said four other people were injured in the traffic accident.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the traffic accident casualties included only passengers in the minibus or whether it also included pedestrians.
The injured are currently being treated in nearby medical institutions.
Police are currently investigating the possible causes of the traffic accident.
Although Ethiopia has one of the lowest per capita car ownership rates in the world, deadly traffic accidents are fairly common, with the blame put on bad roads, reckless driving, a flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of safety rules. ■
