NAIROBI, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Defense Force (KDF) said Wednesday its soldiers killed one al-Shabab terrorist and dismantled the militants' cell during operation in the coastal Lamu County.
KDF said several al-Shabab militants fled with multiple bullet wounds during the operation conducted along Milimani-Baure main supply route.
"The soldiers recovered one AK rifle and three magazines. The soldiers are still in hot pursuit of the injured militants in the ongoing operation," the military said in a statement.
Baure is located inside the dense Boni forest where the government has since 2015 been undertaking a security operation dubbed Linda Boni to flush out al-Shabab militants using the dense forest as their hideout location to carry out attacks in the coastal region.
The military said no injuries were recorded on the KDF troops during the encounter.
"KDF troops alongside other security agencies under Operation Amani Boni, remains committed to pacifying the area and degrade al-Shabab terrorists,' it said.
Lamu County has been in the spotlight for some years now owing to increased scathing attacks by the militants that have left hordes of security officers and civilians dead. ■
