KAMPALA, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori won the men's singles title at the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships here on Sunday.
The second-seeded Opeyori beat Uganda's Brian Kasirye 21-14, 23-21 in the final that lasted 45 minutes at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
"I am happy that I have won the men's final. It has been a tough tournament," Opeyori told Xinhua.
In an all-Egyptian affair, Nour Ahmed Youssri defeated top seed Doha Hany 21-16, 21-16 to win the women's singles crown.
"I am happy that we retained the women's team event trophy and I have also won the singles final," said Youssri.
In other finals, Algerian Koceila Mammeri and Youcef Sabri Medel won the men's doubles, Mauritius duo of Lorna Bodha and Kobita Dookhee lifted the women's doubles title, and Algeria's Koceila Mammeri and Tanina Violette Mammeri took the mixed doubles gold.
After winning the men's and women's team gold, Algeria and Egypt have qualified to represent Africa in the Thomas and Uber Cup finals respectively, which are due to be held in Thailand's capital Bangkok in May. ■
