LUSAKA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Zambia recorded a total of 32,372 road traffic accidents in 2021 and a total of 2,163 people were killed, the police said on Wednesday.
The road traffic accidents recorded last year were an increase of 3,888 from the accidents recorded in the previous year.
Rae Hamoonga, the police spokesperson, said most of the road traffic accidents were attributed to human error such as excessive speed which accounted for 14.9 percent, misjudging clearance distance which accounted for 14.5 percent, and failing to keep to the near side which accounted for 14.3 percent of the accidents.
The police spokesperson added that cutting in accounted for 8.2 percent of the accidents while reversing negligently accounted for 6.3 percent of the accidents. ■
