TRIPOLI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned the Houthi rebels' attacks on facilities near Abu Dhabi's international airport and fuel trucks, as well as the recent hijacking of a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-flagged cargo ship.

"Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity condemns the attacks on Monday that targeted petroleum tankers in the UAE's capital Abu Dhabi, as well as facilities near Abu Dhabi international airport, killing a number of civilians," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, attacking civilians and critical infrastructure is a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

According to UAE's official WMA news agency, the explosion of three petroleum tankers triggered by a fire on Monday morning killed three persons, one Pakistani and two Indians, and injured six others.

Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a military operation that hit the UAE on Monday, with preliminary investigations indicating that the flames and explosions were likely triggered by drones.

The hijacking of a UAE-flagged cargo ship and its crew off the coast of Yemen's western port city of Hodeidah on January 2 was also condemned by Libya's Foreign Ministry on Monday.

"Such activities are regarded as a dangerous escalation of the conflict and will enhance the suffering of the Yemeni people," it said.
