ABUJA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese national and two local security personnel were killed in an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Nigeria's northwestern Kebbi State, local police said Friday.
Bashir Usman, spokesman for the Kebbi State police command, said the attack occurred at a construction site in Gubba village, Maiyama Local Government Area in Kebbi State.
The suspected terrorists allegedly entered the area from the Kebbe axis of neighboring Sokoto State and attacked the site, killing the three people. Two civilians were also injured and evacuated for medical treatment, Usman said.
Usman said police teams repelled another attack by suspected terrorists on the same day. Joint security forces subsequently deployed tactical teams to reinforce security and prevent further incidents.
The Chinese national worked for a private Chinese company, a source told Xinhua.
Construction work at the affected site has been suspended as security agencies step up surveillance and deploy additional personnel to the area. ■
