GAZA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least five Palestinians, including three children, were killed on Sunday evening when a sand cliff collapsed on tents sheltering displaced families in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, Palestinian officials said.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defense, said the cliff collapsed on tents at a shelter center due to heavy rain.
The collapse killed five people, including three children and a woman, and injured several others, some seriously, he added.
Rescue teams were continuing to search for missing people, he noted.
The incident came a day after around 70,000 tents sheltering displaced families were flooded by rain as a low-pressure weather system hit the Gaza Strip, worsening the already difficult living conditions. ■
