KIEV, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles at Kiev and the surrounding region overnight into Saturday, targeting energy infrastructure and other facilities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.

In the Kiev region, a substation connecting the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to Kiev and central Ukraine was hit.

The attack also damaged the Northern Bridge, residential buildings and a kindergarten in the capital.

Kiev is facing severe disruptions to electricity, water and heating supplies, Zelensky said.

One person was killed in the attack in the Kiev region, while five others, including a 14-year-old child, were injured in the capital, according to local authorities.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia also launched 172 drones during the overnight attack. Air defense intercepted 149 drones and four ballistic missiles.  ■
