SANAA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from airstrikes on a village near Yemen's capital Sanaa rose to 22 on Saturday, with 30 others wounded, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported, blaming Saudi warplanes for the attacks.

Abdulaziz al-Dailami, director of Sehatuna hospital, told the channel that the facility had received 22 bodies, mostly women and children, and 30 wounded people following the strikes in Ash Sharyah village in Bani Hushaysh district, east of Sanaa.

The new figures marked a sharp rise from an earlier toll of 11 dead, as rescue efforts continued at the site, where around six residential houses were reportedly struck.

Al-Masirah said further airstrikes targeted rescue workers and homes in the village, while continued military aircraft activity overhead hampered emergency teams attempting to reach the victims. Two of the channel's cameramen were also reported wounded.

The reported attacks could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the Saudi Arabia-led coalition.

The strikes came a day after an attack on a crowded market in Yemen's southwestern Taiz province killed at least 30 people and wounded eight others, with the Houthis and government authorities trading accusations over responsibility.

The latest attacks come amid intensifying hostilities between the Houthis and government forces supported by the Saudi-led coalition, alongside airstrikes across Yemen and Houthi-claimed missile and drone attacks inside Saudi Arabia.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and much of northern Yemen, prompting the Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government. ■
