NINGBO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's Olympic gold medalist Akbar Djuraev delivered a dominant performance in the men's 110kg at the world weightlifting championships here on Friday, breaking world records in both the snatch and the total to sweep all three gold medals.
Djuraev, the Tokyo Olympic champion and Paris Olympic silver medalist, was among the leading contenders for the title. Romania's Lauret Rodriguez emerged as his only serious challenger in the snatch.
Both lifters opened at 190kg and cleared their first two attempts. Djuraev then lifted a world-record 198kg on his third, while Rodriguez failed, giving Djuraev gold and Rodriguez silver. Chinese Taipei's Chen Po-jen, who competed in Group B, took bronze in the snatch.
Djuraev lifted 228kg and 234kg in the clean and jerk before failing at 238kg in his bid for another world record. His 234kg lift secured clean and jerk gold, while his total of 432kg set a world record and gave him the overall title.
Iran's Alireza Nasiri lifted 233kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 418kg, earning two silver medals. Turkmenistan's Shahzadbek Matyakubov took two bronze medals, with a clean and jerk of 230kg and a total of 417kg. ■
