ISLAMABAD, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 30 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a dumper truck in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Friday, rescue officials said.
Officials from Rescue 1122 said that the accident occurred near the Havelian Interchange in Abbottabad district when the bus, traveling from the northern city of Gilgit to the eastern garrison city of Rawalpindi, collided with the truck.
Following the accident, Rescue 1122 dispatched seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle to the site to evacuate the victims and provide emergency assistance.
All 30 injured passengers, including five children and six women, were taken to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment, the officials said.
The medics feared that the death toll might rise because four of the injured passengers were in critical condition.
The bodies of the eight deceased, who reportedly belonged to Gilgit, were transported to different hospitals in the area.
Initial reports suggested that a tire burst caused the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle, according to local police. ■
