BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese defense ministry spokesperson on Friday urged the international community to remain on high alert over Japan's accelerating remilitarization, warning that Tokyo is attempting to revive its wartime military-industrial complex.

Chen Xi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to a query about reports that the Japanese government plans to list a "virtuous cycle between defense and the economy" as one of the key pillars in a planned revision of the country's three national security documents.

The move, analysts say, signals a major shift in Japan's postwar defense policy.

Chen slammed the change as a "smokescreen" for the current Japanese administration's push to accelerate remilitarization. He noted that Japan's military-industrial complex was deeply embedded in the country's economy before World War II, holding government decision-making hostage, underpinning the country's military expansion, and becoming a key driver of its war of aggression.

"Today, Japanese right-wing forces are shedding their 'exclusively defense-oriented' pretense, reactivating the military-industrial complex and accelerating the militarization of Japanese society and economy," Chen said.

Such developments, he warned, would pose systemic risks to global peace and stability.

Chen called on the international community to remain highly vigilant and firmly prevent Japan from reviving its "war machine" and returning to a path of expansionism, urging countries to work together to safeguard the postwar international order. ■
