ANKARA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye and Iran are investigating an incident involving the death of a Turkish soldier along the Türkiye-Iran border, the Turkish Defense Ministry said Thursday.
The ministry's spokesperson Zeki Akturk said at a press briefing that Turkish soldier Yusuf Sait Unlu was wounded by gunfire on Oct. 31 while intervening in an illegal border crossing, and the soldier died on the same day despite medical interventions.
The incident took place in the area overseen by the Engin Mayin Border Outpost on the Türkiye-Iran border, and the gunfire was assessed to have originated from the Iranian side, he added.
Akturk said Türkiye launched judicial and administrative investigations immediately following the incident and held talks with the Iranian side at the scene on Tuesday, noting that the two sides are cooperating closely. ■
