KABUL, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- A four-day agriculture and livestock exhibition opened in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Wednesday, aiming to empower farmers and livestock breeders, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Mawlawi Ataullah Omari highlighted Afghanistan's key natural and human advantages, including abundant water resources, fertile soil, a favorable climate and significant human resources.
He described the event as an important platform for showcasing achievements in the sector, identifying existing capacities and forging stronger links among investors, traders, farmers and livestock producers.
Farmers, livestock breeders and local entrepreneurs from across the country are displaying their products at the exhibition.
According to a ministry statement, the event seeks to improve market access for agricultural and livestock goods, boost domestic production, reduce dependence on imports, expand exports and enhance coordination between producers and the private sector.
The exhibition forms part of a wider series of trade initiatives in the capital. A week earlier, Afghanistan's first specialized mining exhibition opened in Kabul, featuring more than 140 booths where companies showcased precious and semi-precious stones, including emeralds, rubies and lapis lazuli. ■
