AMMAN, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Jordanian security officer was killed Thursday in a "terrorist" stabbing attack during his official duty in Amman, and another officer was wounded while arresting the attacker, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
The incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. (0920 GMT) when an assailant ambushed the officer and stabbed him with a "sharp weapon," a PSD spokesperson said in a statement.
The officer was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
A security patrol intervened immediately and arrested the attacker. An officer in charge of the patrol suffered facial injuries during the confrontation and was also taken to hospital. His condition is stable, said the statement.
Preliminary findings indicated that the attacker had intended and planned to carry out a terrorist attack against public security personnel, the statement added. ■
