SINGAPORE, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will open three new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations on Dec. 26, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Jeffrey Siow said on Wednesday.
The new stations are Bedok South on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Xilin on the Downtown Line, and Sungei Bedok, an interchange connecting the two lines.
The stations will link two major rail corridors, providing commuters in eastern Singapore with more travel options and shorter journey times, Siow said in his opening speech at the Singapore Urban Mobility Week.
Looking ahead, the Jurong Region Line is expected to open in mid-2028, giving residents in western Singapore quicker access to the rail network without having to rely on feeder buses, he said. The Cross Island Line is scheduled for completion in the 2030s.
Singapore currently has an urban rail network spanning 275 km across eight lines, Siow said. ■
