KIEV, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Russia carried out a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, using nearly 300 drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and several dozen cruise missiles, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday.

According to Zelensky, the strikes targeted power-generation facilities and substations across nine regions, causing emergency and power outages.

He said 29 people were killed in Komyshuvakha of the southern Zaporizhzhia region, where rescue operations were still underway.

The attack also hit a hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv, injuring 73 people and causing damage, he said.

DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, said that three of its thermal power plants suspended electricity generation following the strikes, which caused "extensive destruction."

Ukraine's Air Force said its air defenses shot down and intercepted over 300 incoming targets, including 52 missiles. ■
