CAIRO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi discussed efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and prevent a resumption of military operations during a phone call on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

The ministers reviewed regional and international efforts to spare the region from war, which could have severe political, economic and humanitarian repercussions for both the region and the wider world, the ministry said in a statement.

They agreed to make all necessary efforts "to avoid the resumption of military operations and redirect the course of the crisis toward a political solution and negotiations between the parties concerned."

The call came amid renewed U.S.-Iran tensions, with Washington threatening further military action against Tehran and Iran signaling readiness to resume negotiations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz if its demands were met.

Oman previously mediated indirect talks between Iran and the United States. Recently, Tehran said it had reached an understanding with Muscat on safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. ■
