WELLINGTON, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand consented 41,091 new homes in the year to September 2026, up 18 percent from a year earlier, with stand-alone houses recording their highest annual number since 2022, official data showed on Tuesday.
A total of 19,228 stand-alone houses were consented, up 20 percent or more than 3,200 from the previous year. Multi-unit homes accounted for the remaining 21,863, an increase of 16 percent, according to the national statistics agency Stats NZ.
Auckland, the country's largest city, led the growth in stand-alone house consents, with 6,426 homes approved in the year to September, up 36 percent year-on-year, the agency said, noting the increase of more than 1,700 homes consented in Auckland over the year accounted for over half of the nationwide rise.
Meanwhile, 3,570 new homes were consented in September, down 4.7 percent from a year earlier. On a seasonally adjusted basis, new home consents fell 7.9 percent in September from August, the agency said in a statement. ■
