SINGAPORE, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) records 88.83 billion ringgit (21.8 billion U.S. dollars) in approved investments between January 2025 and June 2026, Singapore's Ministry of National Development and Malaysia's Ministry of Economy said in a joint statement on Monday.
About 45 percent of the approved investments, or 40.3 billion ringgit, had been implemented, the statement said.
The approved projects were associated with 28,755 potential employment opportunities, including 12,796 jobs associated with implemented projects.
The progress was welcomed at the first meeting of the Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee in Singapore on Monday. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and accelerating the development of the economic zone.
The JS-SEZ was established under an agreement signed by Malaysia and Singapore in January 2025. It aims to attract investment by combining the availability of land and lower operating costs in Johor, Malaysia's southernmost state, with Singapore's strengths in financial services and infrastructure. ■
