BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.82 percent to 3,608.1 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.21 percent lower at 10,876.99 points.
Turnover of stocks covered by these two indices totaled about 1.7 trillion yuan (around 253.16 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.8 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the insurance, pork and batteries sectors led the gains, while stocks in computing power hardware, semiconductor chips, robotics, and pharmaceuticals and medical care posted notable losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.73 percent to close at 2,391.65 points on Tuesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 4.84 percent lower on Tuesday at 1,387.95 points. ■
