BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Wang Yi, China's top diplomat, met with Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in Beijing on Monday.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, said that China will follow the initiatives and propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping on easing the situation in the Middle East and work together with all parties continuously to restore regional peace.

Noting that dialogue and negotiation hold the key to settlement, Wang said all parties should, in a responsible manner to their peoples and to history, meet each other halfway and work for a political solution with rationality and pragmatism, rather than returning to conflict.

Amid the volatile and shifting international landscape, China-Iran relations have maintained steady growth, Wang said, adding that it serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples and aligns with the aspiration of Global South countries for solidarity and cooperation.

China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security and stands ready to work with Iran to further advance China-Iran relations, Wang said.

Ali Bagheri Kani said Iran will firmly uphold its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, resist power politics and threats, noting that Iran is ready to engage and negotiate with all parties and actively commit itself to regional peace and stability.

The Iranian side appreciates the initiatives and propositions proposed by President Xi, as well as China's consistent commitment to multilateralism, looks forward to China playing a greater role in international and regional peace, and is ready to advance the steady growth of Iran-China ties and boost cooperation within international and multilateral frameworks, Ali Bagheri Kani said.  ■
