NOVI SAD, Serbia, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of people gathered in Serbia's northern city of Novi Sad on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of a railway station canopy collapse that killed 16 people and left one seriously injured.
Participants in the commemoration walked toward the railway station and laid flowers and wreaths in memory of the victims.
At 11:52 a.m. (1052 GMT), the moment the canopy collapsed on Nov. 1, 2024, participants observed 16 minutes of silence, one minute for each victim. A choir performance and speeches followed.
A speaker called for accountability for the deaths, saying those responsible must be brought to justice.
The collapse sparked protests and demonstrations across Serbia, with demands for accountability and action against corruption becoming central to the anti-government movement. ■
