WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Golden State Valkyries won the 2026 WNBA title in their second season with a 68-63 home victory over the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 of the Finals on Saturday.
The Valkyries began to compete in the WNBA in the 2025 season.
Valkyries forward Gabby Williams scored a game-high 30 points, including a record 28 points in the second half, and was awarded the series MVP.
"I love moments like this," Williams said. "Nat (coach Natalie Nakase) told me to be patient in the first half. It was hard, but I listened to her and she was right as always."
With the game tied at 57-57, Williams sank a 3-pointer with 2:18 left, before adding two free throws to help the Valkyries build a five-point lead. The Valkyries secured the win with free throws from Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton.
"We have people who are ready to put their bodies on the floor to win a game. They don't care about scoring. They just want to do defense and rebounding. Do whatever it takes and we built a beautiful culture here," Williams said. ■
