TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Ali Abdollahi said on Saturday the country's armed forces have compiled a new list of the "enemy's" targets and assets across a wider geography.
In a message carried by Iranian media, Abdollahi warned the United States and Israel that if they repeat the "aggression" against the country and its people, they will face a "new approach as well as an unimaginable and more severe and effective response" compared to the 40-day war.
"Iran's armed forces have placed on their agenda a new bank of the enemies' targets and assets spanning a geography wider than before, and will face the adversaries with new surprises on the battlefield," he said.
Abdollahi stressed that the armed forces will definitely continue to strengthen their readiness day by day, noting that Iran will be the party to determine the end of a new war.
The remarks came after it was announced in a statement earlier in the day that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had ordered senior commanders of the country's armed forces to ensure that any level and kind of threat from the "enemies" must be met with an "immediate and effective" response without geographical limitations.
Also on Saturday, Iranian Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia warned that if U.S. President Donald Trump embarks on another "adventurism" in West Asia, the flames of the war will spread to a wider region.
In a post on social media platform X, Akraminia said if, under the Israelis' threat and enticement, "the U.S. president embarks on another adventurism in the region, the flames of the war will undoubtedly engulf a wider geography, and the war's end will not be in his hands."
The Iranian Army is incessantly enhancing its combat readiness, "distrustful of and indifferent to the enemy's actions," he said, adding, "We are closely monitoring the U.S. movements in the region."
Warnings by Iranian officials come amid heightened U.S. threats of military action against Iran.
On Thursday, Trump was briefed by top U.S. military officials on options regarding Iran, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported. The United States has also informed several Gulf countries to prepare for a possible brief but intense military campaign against Iran after the U.S. midterm elections, according to the WSJ. ■
