LONDON, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

No injuries to the crew or environmental impact had been reported at the time of the warning.

The incident occurred at 1600 UTC on Thursday, according to the UKMTO, which received the report from the vessel's company security officer. Authorities are investigating.

In a separate incident earlier Thursday, a vessel was reported on fire in the Strait of Hormuz, nine nautical miles (about 17 km) north of Khasab, Oman. That incident occurred at 0300 UTC.

In an update, the UKMTO said regional authorities had identified the vessel as a dhow that was involved in a maritime security incident.

A large fire broke out on board, causing the vessel to list and sink. Local authorities confirmed that all crew members had been safely evacuated.

The UKMTO advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. ■
