TOKYO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday, boosted by gains in some heavyweight technology shares after upbeat earnings forecasts and hopes that other upcoming earnings reports could fuel a further rally.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, rose 705.28 points, or 1.10 percent, from Wednesday to finish at 64,659.47.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, edged up 11.57 points, or 0.29 percent, to 4,003.28.
On the top-tier Prime Market, bank, securities house and mining issues were notable gainers.
The Nikkei was supported by Advantest, a semiconductor testing equipment maker, which climbed 6.01 percent after raising its earnings forecast the previous day, easing wariness toward chip-related shares, analysts said.
Market sentiment was also lifted by overnight gains on Wall Street, where solid earnings reports from tech companies helped allay concerns about the outlook for the artificial intelligence and chip sectors. ■
