ULAN BATOR, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Fifteen workers were injured in an accident at the large Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in southern Mongolia on Thursday, according to the mine operator.

"At around 6 p.m. today, a seismic event occurred along a rock fracture zone, causing tremors in the underground mine," said operator Oyu Tolgoi LLC in a statement.

The company said the tremors triggered a rockfall, injuring 15 workers. No fatalities were reported.

The injured workers are receiving medical attention and undergoing medical examinations, the company said, adding that an assessment of the situation was ongoing. The company said it would provide further information as it became available.

Located in the Umnugovi Province, the Oyu Tolgoi mine is one of the world's largest copper mines and the country's largest investment project to date.

At full capacity, the mine is expected to produce an average of around 500,000 tons of copper annually between 2028 and 2036 from its open-pit and underground operations. ■
