KIEV/MOSCOW, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed and 14 others injured Thursday when a Russian drone struck a railway station in Dnipro, central Ukraine, local authorities said.

Six of the injured, including an 11-year-old boy, were in serious condition, according to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration.

Ukraine's state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said a jet-powered drone hit a platform where a train bound for Zaporizhzhia was stationary. Emergency services were working at the scene.

Separately, Russia's Defense Ministry said Thursday that its air defenses had intercepted 1,214 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple Russian regions.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said 613 drones had headed toward the Moscow region overnight, with 231 shot down as they approached the capital.

Russian media described the assault as one of the largest drone attacks on the country in the past year.

The Russian Defense Ministry also said its forces had struck a dry cargo ship bound for the port of Odesa, claiming it was carrying military and dual-use supplies for Ukrainian forces. ■
