KABUL, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Police rescued 127 people from suspected human traffickers in Afghanistan's western Nimroz province on Wednesday, provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat said Thursday.
The suspected traffickers were attempting to take the individuals out of the country illegally via Nimroz, the official said, adding that police also seized five vehicles used to transport them.
Without providing further details, Qudrat said police would not allow anyone to cross the border illegally and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in human trafficking.
Last week, police also thwarted an attempt to traffic 89 people and arrested three suspected human traffickers in the same province.
Many Afghans continue to leave the country illegally in search of employment abroad amid poverty and unemployment in the war-torn nation. ■
