ISLAMABAD, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- One civilian was killed and five others were injured on Tuesday when mortar fire from Afghan militants hit civilian houses and a market in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a Pakistani official said Wednesday.
The incident occurred on the night of Oct. 27 in Lower South Waziristan, damaging several shops, Deputy Commissioner of the district Musarrat Zaman, said in a post on X.
Pakistani forces deployed along the border have been responding to the firing, he said.
The incident comes amid tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where cross-border firing has raised security concerns for residents living in border areas. ■
