WELLINGTON, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand police have seized 137 kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of 40 million NZ dollars (about 22.7 million U.S. dollars) from a shipping container in Auckland.
Police were called to a facility in south Auckland on Tuesday morning after staff became suspicious of several bags inside the container, Detective Inspector Karen Bright of Counties Manukau Criminal Investigation Branch said in a statement on Wednesday.
Police found 137 individual bricks of cocaine concealed inside several bags, along with two Glock pistols, ammunition magazines and about 200 rounds of ammunition, Bright said, adding that the cocaine discovery amounted to an estimated 1.37 million doses.
The shipment arrived from the Netherlands via Balboa, police said, noting further inquiries are underway into the shipment. ■
