UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- With humanitarian needs outpacing relief efforts amid ongoing hostilities in northern Ethiopia, UN humanitarians said Tuesday they were mobilizing additional resources, including by reprioritizing existing funding.

Once again, the United Nations calls for urgent additional funding to keep scaling up assistance and reach people in need across the Afar, Amhara and Tigray regions, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Meanwhile, Ozonnia Ojielo, the humanitarian coordinator in Ethiopia, continues to engage with the federal and regional authorities to ensure safe humanitarian access and the delivery of life-saving assistance, said OCHA.

The United Nations and its partners continue to provide humanitarian assistance in northern Ethiopia, it said.

In the Afar region, partners are providing water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, as well as emergency cash assistance, while efforts continue to strengthen health services in all areas affected by hostilities, said OCHA.

In the Amhara region, at least 428 metric tons of food commodities from the World Food Programme were being distributed in the North Gondar and Wag Hemra zones to those affected by conflict, food insecurity and the effects of El Nino, said OCHA.

In Tigray, 45 trucks carrying food supplies from partner organization World Vision arrived in Shire Town on Monday, it added. ■
