SANAA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Airstrikes hit the Houthi-held Red Sea port city of Mocha in Yemen's southwestern Taiz province on Wednesday, with no casualties immediately reported.

Houthi-run al-Masirah TV said what it described as "Saudi aggression warplanes" carried out a series of strikes on the coastal city, including four targeting the headquarters of a local security command.

Local residents told Xinhua that powerful explosions were heard across Mocha as warplanes struck areas where Houthi forces had recently deployed personnel and military equipment.

There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities on the reported strikes.

The Houthis seized Mocha on Sept. 10 during a rapid southward advance along Yemen's western Red Sea coast. The group subsequently captured the Bab al-Mandab area and Mayyun Island, which lies in the strategic strait linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government. ■
