TBILISI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Georgia plans to gradually increase the share of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, in its international reserves to around 15 percent in the near term, Governor Natia Turnava of the National Bank of Georgia said on Wednesday.

Turnava said the move would diversify the country's holdings and reduce exposure to market volatility.

Georgia's reserves are predominantly denominated in U.S. dollars. The Georgian central bank has also acquired monetary gold and other currencies, including yuan, as part of its diversification policy.

Turnava said Asian markets, including China's capital market, may differ from Western markets during turbulent times and can strengthen the resilience of Georgia's international reserves. ■
