TOKYO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. military MV-22 Osprey transport aircraft made an emergency landing at an airport in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Wednesday, local media reported.
The aircraft is assigned to U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa Prefecture, and was transporting personnel as part of the Japan-U.S. Keen Sword 27 joint military exercises, Kyodo News reported, citing Japan's Defense Ministry.
The Osprey landed at Tanegashima Airport on Tanegashima Island at around 10:10 a.m. local time, about 10 minutes after airport officials had been notified of its arrival. It took off again about three hours later.
No injuries or disruptions to civilian flight operations were reported. Still, the Kagoshima prefectural government has asked the central government to urge the United States to determine the cause of the emergency landing and prevent a recurrence, according to the report. ■
