NINGBO, China, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- DPR Korea's Ri Song Gum claimed her third consecutive world title at the 2026 IWF World Championships here, with host China also taking a gold medal.

In the women's 49kg on Tuesday's opening competition day, Ri posted a 92kg snatch and a 119kg clean and jerk for a 211kg total to finish ahead of China's Zhao Jinhong, whose career-best 91-116-207 earned her three silvers.

In the men's 60kg, China's Asian Games champion Yang Yang lifted 136kg in the snatch and 168kg in the clean and jerk for a 304kg total, securing both the snatch and overall titles.

DPRK's Pang Un Chol, the clean and jerk world record holder, took the silver with a 300kg total after failing his first two clean and jerk attempts, while debutant Pak In Song claimed bronze with the same total.

The championships will run through November 8, marking the event's return to China after 31 years. The tournament also serves as the first qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, featuring athletes from around 120 countries and regions. ■
