JERUSALEM, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Central Elections Committee on Tuesday rejected an appeal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party and its allied parties to extend voting hours beyond 10 p.m. local time, saying there was no justification for doing so.
The committee said in a statement that high voter turnout across all population groups reflected strong public participation in the democratic process.
"It was ruled that, as things stand, there is no justification for extending the voting hours," the committee said.
Voting will end as scheduled at 10 p.m. local time. ■
