BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.33 percent to 3,648.3 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.5 percent lower at 11,245.73 points.
Turnover of stocks covered by these two indices totaled about 1.46 trillion yuan (around 217.36 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.61 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in aircraft manufacturing, electronic information and plastic production fell markedly, while shipping and building energy efficiency experienced gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.41 percent to close at 2,548.15 points Tuesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 3.93 percent lower at 1,511.95 points on Tuesday. ■
