DAMASCUS, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Three young men were killed and two others injured in a landmine explosion in the southern countryside of Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah on Tuesday morning, Syria's state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV reported.
The Syrian Civil Defense said its teams recovered the bodies of the three victims and transported both injured to a local public hospital for treatment, according to the report.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said the explosion occurred while the young men were tampering with explosive remnants of war as they were herding sheep.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance left over from the conflict continue to cause civilian casualties across Syria. The observatory has documented 273 such deaths since the start of 2026, including 106 children. ■
